A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
