Both Deceased Students Identified in the Providence Campus Attack as Law Enforcement Continue Hunt for Perpetrator.
The pair of scholars who died in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their killer persisted following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.
Tributes for Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.
Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also posted words of sorrow publicly, remarking: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”
The Second Victim
The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.
Umurzokov’s identity was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.
Details of the Attack
Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.
“A perpetrator remains free,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”
Community Anxiety
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our city”.
The gunman opened fire inside a room in the building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a authority informed the Associated Press.
Police that searched the inn found two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was detained, as was reported.
