Fans Call for Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the actress are demanding that a individual who leaped a barrier and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is evidently a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two very different characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, winning two for best costume and production design.
