Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the tour at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of his spell, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out of the third.
