Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
