Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
