Alina Habba has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This comes after a court battle that questioned her legal standing to serve.
Official Departure
The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, confirmed Habba's resignation on the start of the week. She commented that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for her to lead the department effectively.
"But do not mistake following the order as giving up," she declared. "My fight will now reach across America."
Court Ruling
Her resignation follows closely on a judicial panel ruled that she had been serving in violation of the law as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is likely to affect many criminal cases in the Garden State.
The court ruled that a temporary posting that bypassed Senate approval ran afoul of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

It was also stated that she will remain at the justice department as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the disqualification, with hopes of a reversal.
Writing online, she contended that judges "should not be able to countermand the appointment of lawyers tasked with performing the primary duty of the administration of prosecuting crime."
Performance in Office
The attorney general highlighted Habba's record and noted that while she was in charge, the state capital of Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in criminal activity. She also stated that the city of Camden experienced its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 free from homicides.
Background and Previous Role
Habba, 41, originally became part of Donald Trump's lawyers in recent years. Subsequently, she acted for her client in his New York criminal case in New York last year, leading to his conviction on 34 counts of financial record manipulation.
Before her appointment to the top New Jersey post, Donald Trump had announced he was selecting her as his White House advisor if re-elected, describing the lawyer as a steadfast ally and a "tireless advocate for justice".
