Meteorologists are saying an icy start to the new year, with snow expected throughout a lot of the UK. Revelers are advised to dress warmly as sub-zero temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Celebrations Continue Despite Warnings
The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay events are set to proceed, a contrast to last year's calling-off. This comes despite advisories for snow over northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those partying, so warmer clothes will be essential," noted the Met Office.
Displays Under Mostly Clear but Frosty Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is likely to be perfect for fireworks shows, with dry conditions and good visibility. Readings are forecast to be chilly, so warm wraps a necessity, according to forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be cloudier, but this is not expected to affect visibility for seeing fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Extensive Advisories for Friday
Heading into Friday, weather warnings are in place across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England.

Readings Expected to Plummet Even More

Around 10cm of snow could accumulate to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
