Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with results like these.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
