The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
