The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
