Trump Welcomes Relatives of Shot Guard Soldiers to White House
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Policy Changes
Officials have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi informed the program that she also intended to visit the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
